More Canyon Beauties

Here are some more flowers seen on my May 2 trip down the Feather River Canyon. If you go in search of these and others, please don't try to do your viewing at 55 mph. The canyon can be dangerous. Use the turnouts and search for flowers on foot. There are some large patches of floral color that can induce serious "rubber-necking" and lead to accidents. More flowers will be posted later today or tomorrow. The drive from Chico or Oroville to Quincy is around an hour and forty minutes. Take three or more hours and enjoy the flowers. Also, check out the amazing Bear Creek Falls. There are no signs. Park at the Caltrans rest area a few miles east of the Pulga bridge. Across the road there is a gated dirt road that heads up hill to the right. About a 10-15 minute walk. Definitely worth it. Photographed 15 species of wildflowers along the way.

  1. I would love to know the name of the shrub in the last picture above. Do you know it by chance?
