Arachnophilia, continued....



I set out to photograph the yarrow, then I was surprised by this great show, a Goldenrod Crab Spider laid in wait for any sort of winged insect that might come in to pollinate and possibly mistake the spider for a blossom. Then, ZAP! The ensuing struggle lasted at least 10 minutes and moved all over the top of the yarrow and underneath before the hover fly or bee - I'm not sure which - gave up the fight. Then the spider began to suck the juices out and left behind an empty skin. When the season of Halloween and Dia de los Muertos passes, I'll return to tamer subjects. There was beauty in this battle, though, in that all parties involved seemed perfectly well adapted to their roles in the drama.
